5 BEST TECHNICAL WRESTLERS IN WWE HISTORY

5 BEST TECHNICAL WRESTLERS IN WWE HISTORY

You may be wondering what exactly is a “technical
wrestler”. To put it simply, a technical
wrestler refers to a wrestler whose style
involves lots of holds, reversals and submissions
as opposed to brawling. There have been many
great technical wrestlers that have stepped
foot in a WWE ring, so damn many to include
in this list. So let’s cue some jazzy music
and we will take a look at some honourable
mentions. If I have still missed someone of
particular importance, please don’t kill
me. Aside from this, here are some of the
best technical wrestlers of all time in the
WWE.
“The Man of 1000 Holds” and rightly so.
Although he was never a world champion, “The
Iceman” Dean Malenko was a true technician
in the ring. Malenko lacked the charisma,
however, made up for it with scintillating
technical prowess. For that reason, it is
no surprise that he has won the Bryan Danielson
award for Best Technical Wrestler not once
but twice back in 1996 and 1997. His 2 out
of 3 falls ECW farewell match against Eddie
Guerrero in 1995 was one of the best displays
of technical wrestling and the “please don’t
go” chants from the crowd were a testament
to how good the match was.
Chris Benoit was one of the most gifted technical
wrestlers to ever step foot in a WWE ring,
however, his legacy is unfortunately shadowed
by his double-murder and suicide. Aside from
this, “The Best Damned Technical Wrestler
In The World” as Benoit referred to himself
as, put on many great matches in his career
against the likes of Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho
and Bret Hart in an Owen Hart tribute match
back in WCW. Benoit never really had a bad
match and his matches against Kurt Angle in
particular showcased technical chain wrestling
at its finest with plenty of holds, unique
reversals and submissions. To credit Benoit
of how good a technical wrestler he was, he
has won the Bryan Danielson award for Best
Technical Wrestler an impressive 5 times in
1994, 1995, 2000, 2003 and 2004.
With a background in amateur wrestling, it
is no surprise that Kurt Angle is in this
list as one of the best technical wrestlers
in WWE history. After all, the man won a Gold
in the 1996 Olympics 100kg Freestyle Wrestling
event with a broken neck! Angle immediately
made an impact when he transitioned from amateur
to professional wrestling by becoming a “Euro-continental”
champion then later a world champion for nearly
a year. He was even named as the Best Technical
Wrestler in 2002 and his matches with Chris
Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Shawn Michaels
were sheer brilliance. If you don’t believe
me then you can go f*ck yourself. I’m just
kidding, watch the matches and you will see
exactly why they are just damn brilliant.
Daniel Bryan is perhaps regarded as one of
the best technical wrestlers in the modern
era. Bryan’s technical proficiency meant
that he could out-work any opponent he came
up against and unleash devastating submission
holds. His work in Ring of Honor was some
of his best in his career and his match against
CM Punk at WWE Over the Limit in 2012 took
technical wrestling to a whole new level.
To credit how technically gifted he was in
the ring, Bryan had an award named after him
shortly after his retirement, the Bryan Danielson
Award for Best Technical Wrestler. He has
won that award a staggering nine times from
2005 up until 2013, the most out of anyone
in that category.
Bret Hart’s name is synonymous with technical
wrestling. He is “The Excellence of Execution”
and for good reason. If you have not seen
some of Bret Hart’s matches, then I would
advise you go watch them after this video.
His matches with Mr. Perfect, Owen Hart and
Chris Benoit were technical masterpieces and
cemented him as one of the top wrestlers of
all time in the WWE. Hart was very methodical
in the way he wrestled, gradually weakening
his opponents with a series of holds and submissions
before locking in his finishing move, the
Sharpshooter. Hart has undoubtedly shaped
the industry of professional wrestling and
it is no wonder that he is “The Best There
Is, The Best There Was and The Best There
Ever Will Be”.

  1. I dont care whose on the list Kurt Angel shouldALWAYS be #! for best technical wrestler. and seriously no honarable mention for Samoa Joe Tazz, Cgarlie Hass Shelton Benjamin or Lance Storm!?

  2. Where the FUCK is Brock Lesnar? Who has more skill than Lesnar? Two time NCAA and UFC Champion doesn't even get you and honorable mention, but the fucking goat who kicked people is number 2. Which leads me to my next point, by him being number 2, that ranks him higher than KURT FUCKING ANGLE, think about that, a goat who kneed people in the tit and did kicks ranks higher than an Olympic gold medalist.
This is what a real top 5 technical wrestlers looks like
    5.Regal
    4.Backlund
    3.Swagger
    2.Benoit
    1.Angle & Lesnar are tied

  3. take Daniel Brian off the list and put William Regal in his place….drop Dean and replace him with Rand Savage….then will talk

  4. most of the people saying Daniel Bryan is overrated haven't watched his work in ROH, the guy was a machine
they didn't let him do shit in WWE
the "best technical wrestler" award is named the "Bryan Danielson" award for a reason
    he won that 9 times..
for me, he's up there with Dean malenko,
the problem is that the nostalgia factor plays a huge part here , so people can't see him up there with others on this list

  5. Hey guys one guy u forgot was at the moment the best technical wrestler on the planet and sure he only worked for wwe for the cwc but it's Zack Sabre Jr,but still great list

  6. Daniel Bryan better than Chris Benoit? No just no. Daniel Bryan was practically a second version of Chris Benoit. Yes Lock<Crippler Crossface.

  7. How can you not have Kurt Angle as the best technical wrestler? He won an Olympic gold medal with a broken frigin neck!

  8. Here are the Top 10 in ring performers of all time (not just limited to technical wrestling):
    1) Shawn Michaels
    2) Randy Savage
    3) Curt Hennig
    4) Sting
    5) Undertaker (only big man capable of 5 star matches)
    6) Daniel Bryan
    7) John Morrison (wasted potential)
    8) Ricky Steamboat
    9) Bret Hart
    10) Rey Mysterio Jr

  9. Nice list, but it is obviously illehitamite. Whenever people argue about the greatest technical matches of all time they ussually argue between Ricky steamboat vs Macho man Randy Savage and ricky Steamboat vs Ric flair. yet you don't even give the guy honorable mention!! Obviously he list is illigitamite. Enter the dragon!!!!!!

  10. Kurt angle won gold medal with a brocken freakin neck so he is best technical wrestler we were crazy to see the match bret hart vs kurt angle in I Quit Match

  11. 1. Chris Benoit
    2. Kurt Angle
    3. Y2J
    4. Bret Hart
    5. Dean Malenko
    6. William Regal
    7. Eddie Guerrero
    8. Ric Flair
    9. Mr Perfect
    10. Daniel Bryan

Originally wasn’t going to put Daniel Bryan in my list as I always felt he was a Benoit rip off but recently I’ve come to like Daniel Bryan and think he’s a great technical wrestler but he’s not better than the names I put above him as he’s not really gone up against a lot of other technical wrestlers like how benoits matches against Malenko, Y2J, Angle or Eddie was great because you had great technical wrestlers going up against each other and some times a certain wrestlers would win the battle and sometimes he would lose the battle but one thing for certain was after the match we’ll all be talking about it for a while because they used to put on 11/10 matches on regular Raw, Smackdown, ECW days

  12. I can agree with the #1 choice at least. Bret Hart defined technical wrestlers. In the modern era at least.

  13. Technical wrestling is overrated and it shouldnt even matter that much in pro wrestling, if the sport is amateur wrestling then yes you gotta be technical, stone cold undertaker kane triple h arent technical and they are hella lot more entertaining than any krispen wah, bret the shitman hart, good looks charisma decent in ring skill, a signature move a killer finishing move and entrance theme song and you are set

  14. what bullshit is this… Daniel Bryan at 2?!.

    here's the new list.

    Kurt Angle
    Chris Benoit
    Bret Hart
    Chris Jericho
    Eddie Guerrero

  15. Bryan should not even be in top 20 WWE or not. Stu Hart, Ed Lewis, Lou Thesz, Rikidozan, Dick Hutton, Gene Kinisky, Karl Gotch, Billy Robinson, Bob Backlund, Dory Funk Jr, Terry Funk, Von Erichs, Tatsumi Fujinami, Antonio Inoki, Bret Hart, Curt Hennig, Scott Steiner, Dan Severn, Kazushi Sakuraba, Ken Shamrock, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar.

  16. You get discredited by putting Daniel Bryan in the list he shouldn't even be there😂 Bret Hart a better wrestler than Owens I'm guessing you weren't around in the 90s to watch. Owen was a better wrestler Bret Hart just had more determination for the business

  17. Owen Hart, Ric Flair, Dean Malenko, Bret Hart, Daniel Bryan, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, and CM Punk are the Top 8 most technical/mat wrestlers ever.

  18. Chris Benoit is my favorite wrestler and he is way better than Daniel Bryan I understand why Bret is ahead of him Bret hart is absolutely amazing and Eddie Guerrero is way better than Daniel Bryan Shawn Michaels is better than Daniel Bryan I could literally name 50 wrestlers who are better than Daniel Bryan.
Daniel Bryan is the most overrated wrestler of all time hands down

  19. Kurt angle is the best technical wrestler of all time on real fighter as well you people are delusional i say benoit then eddie guerrero

  20. 10 best wrestlers ever:

    1. Shawn Michaels
    2. Kurt Angle
    3. Chris Benoit
    4. Bret Hart
    5. Dynamite Kid
    6. Eddie Guerrero
    7. Ricky Steamboat
    8. Tiger Mask
    9. AJ Styles
    10. Chris Jericho

Honorable Mentions: William Regal, Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan, Owen Hart, and Curt Henning.

P.s. Don't come at me about not putting Omega or any of the current NJPW try-hards on this list. They have no in ring psychology and just do flippy shit that doesn't mean anything. No one compares to these guys.

  21. What about Cm punk ;he should be in 1st or 2nd position, he had defended his title for 434 days, he is the best in the world!..,
